Scope and Content

This volume contains the collected poetry of Aşık Gevheri, a prominent Anatolian folk poet of the later 17th and early 18th centuries CE. This would seem to be the only known copy of Gevheri's Divan-i mürettep, although it does appear that a copy of the author's Mecmua-yı Eş'ar-ı Gevherî can be found in the Çorum İl Halk Kütüphanesi. The poems are arranged alphabetically according to the final letters of the stanzas. It contains almost 300 poems, while Köprülüzade's edition has only 176 and Bayrı's contains 203. These editions were compied from various mecmualar in which poems by Gevheri had been included, rather than a comprehensive Divan. There are frequent and considerable textual differences between the versions of the same poem in this manuscript and the printed editions. Each poem is headed by Gevheri's name in red ink, except for semailer, which are preceded by the word 'semai', and a single poem on f 61v that is by Tanburi Mustafa. This manuscript was likely copied in the latter half of the 18th century CE, and definitely before 1225 AH (1810-11 CE), which occurs in a note on f 97r.
