Scope and Content

This volume contains the following five documents, possibly collected by a French dragoman in the 18th century CE:. ff 1r-27v : Fragmens de grammaire turc;. ff 28r-121v : Phrases turcs et français;. ff 122r-136v : Poésies de Chahidi, the well-known Tuhfe-yi Şahidi, a versified Persian-Ottoman Turkish vocabulary composed in 920 AH (1514-15 CE). This copy is imperfect at the beginning and was copied in 1150 AH (1737-38 CE);. ff 155r-205r : Contes en turc. Fragments d'anecdotes, oral literature commencing with the story of Leyla and Mecnun (ff 155r-186v) and followed by an incomplete recension of the Tale of HasanŞah (ff 187r-204v) in Divani script;. ff 205r-213r : Fables turcs. The texts are all copied in different hands, the majority using Nastaliq.
