Scope and Content

This volume contains a didactic mesnevi by Geyveli Güvahi, who died in 926 AH (1519-20 CE). The work is also known as the Kenz ül-bedai, although there are various sources that claim the two are distinct works. There is some confusion as to the date of composition, which varies from 903 AH (1497-98 CE) in the Vienna Catalogue to 933 AH (1526-27 CE) in the Karatay catalogue, with the former far likelier. The date of composition is not provided in the current copy. The poem consists of a versified series of Arabic proverbs illustrated by anecdotes. The Pendname is followed by two similar but shorter mesneviler by the same author, the İbretname (ff 57r-63r) and the Gubretname (ff 63r-67r). The text contains two unvans and an illuminated tailpiece. The manuscript was copied in 1168 AH (1754-55 CE) by Ali İbn-i Ali.
