Scope and Content

This volume contains the following 15 Ottoman Turkish medical texts :. (I) ff 2r-28v : Kitab uş-şifa, A compilation of various works on medicine based on Arabic originals made by Ak Şemseddin, dated 1099 AH (1687-88 CE);. (II) ff 29r-30r : Medical recipes;. (III) ff 30v-39v : A risale by Reis ül-hükema Salih Efendi on medical recipes that is incomplete;. (IV) ff 40r-v : Medical recipes;. (V) ff 40v-62r : Another risale in 15 bab entitled Tevalüd (ü) tenasül written for Mehmet II by Mehmet Çelebi, probably translated from the Persian. The text was copied in 1094 AH (1682-83 CE);. (VI) ff 62v-64r : Isolated pages from another medical work bound up with the others;. (VII) ff 64v-83v : Risale-yi mualece-yi ebdan, medical remedies by Kaysunizade in mesnevi form. This text is incomplete;. (VIII) ff 84v-95v : Recipes by Ak Şemseddin;. (IX) ff 96v-145r : Lugat-i müşkilat-i ecza, written in 1035 AH (1625-26 CE) by Karamanlı Derviş Siyahi;. (X) ff 145v-146r : Recipes;. (XI) ff 146r-161r : An untitled medical risale by Mehmet Çelebi(?). The dates of transcription of texts VIII and IX are given in the form of a riddle (muamma) in this text as 24 Şeval 1094 AH (16 October 1683 CE);. (XII) f 161v : A medical recipe;. (XIII) ff 162r-163v : Some quotations from the works of Kaysunizade;. (XIV) ff 163v-164r : More recipes;. (XV) ff 164v-170r : A tract on the religious associations of the weekdays by Şeyh Abdülgani dated 1117 AH (1705-06 CE). The texts within the manuscript were written by a number of contemporaneaous hands.
