This volume contains the following two texts on Islamic law of a popular character:. (I) ff 2r-74r : Tenbih-i akilin ve tenkitü'l-gafilin, a work in 4 fusul compiled in the reign of Kanuni Süleyman by Lutfi İbn-i Abdülhay. The work quotes various sources, notably the Persian Maṣābīḥ al-Īmān (مصابيح الايمان), the Uṣūl-i fiqh (أصول فقه), and Fetāvá-i Tātār Khān (فتاواى تاتار خان);. (II) ff 74r-287v : Tuhfetü't-talibin, written in 960 AH (1552-53 CE) by Lutfi İbn-i Abdülmuin, a Grand Vezir of Sultan Kanuni Süleyman. Babinger gives his date of death as 971 AH (1564-65 CE). The work is divided into 25 fusul. It quotes very frequently, among other works, the Hulviyat-i Sultani. That these works are by one and the same person is clear from the mention of the Tuhfe in the author's completion of the Tenbih. In İ.A., p. 100, Dr. Gökbilgin gives the name of the Vezir as Lutfi İbn-i Abdülmuin Abdülhay with the correct title of text I, although he does not mention text II. Presumably, he found the name Abdülhay in the copy of the Tenbih in İstanbul Üniversitesi, as it does not occur elsewhere except in the Keşfü'l-zunun zeyli (i, p. 326). There is a work entitled Tenbihü'l-akilin ve tekidü'l-arifin that is attributed to Vezir Lutfi İbn-i Abdülhay, who died in 950 AH (1543-44 CE). Another form of the title, Tenbihü'l-gafilin ve tekidü'l-gafilin, appears first in Lutfi Paşa's Tevarih-i Al-i Osman, and is repeated, with slight variations, in all later lists of the works of Lutfi. There is a table of contents on the first folio of the present volume which has been added at a later date and an appendix (ff 288r-291v) containing two anecdotes, the second concerning İbrahim İbn-i Ethem. The name of the copyist of this manuscript is given as Cafer İbn-i Mehmet, and the date of transcription as 967 AH (1559-60 CE), but this must be the date of the original work, for both the writing and the paper suggest a much later date, possibly the 18th century.
