Scope and Content

This volume contains a calendar and other astronomical tables compiled by Şeyh Vefa (Muslihuddin Mustafa İbn-i Ahmet), who died in 896 AH (1491 CE). On f 2r is a translation of a text attributed to Muḥyī al-Dīn ibn al-ᶜarabī concerning the ricalü'l-gayıp or aptal. The contents of the volume are as follows:. (I) f 1v : A table showing the day of the week on which each Hijri month begins in the years 1070-1144 AH (1659-1732 CE);. (II) f 2r : A table showing the day of Ramazan on which Laylatü'l-kader falls;. (III) f 2r : A text on the ricalü'l-gayıp and their location on each day of the month;. (IV) f 2v : A table showing the incidence of Nevruz-i sultani;. (V) f 2v : On the incidence of the Hijri (?) new year;. (VI) f 3r : A table showing the incidence of leap years;. (VII) f 3r : A table showing the incidence of the first days of the Hijri months (?);. (VIII) ff 3v-9r : A calendar, with one page for each of the Syrian months. This manuscript was likely copied in the middle of the 17th century CE.
