Scope and Content

This volume contains a work largely in mesnevi, incorporating as well some prose passages, that describes the festivities accompanying the circumcision of Prince Mehmet, the son of Murat III, in 990 AH (1582 CE). The author is the well-known Ali of Gelibolu (Gallipoli), who died in 1008 AH (1599 CE). The work is divided into two mukaddemeler, eight ebvab, and a hatime. The last folio of the text is missing. There is a note in Ottoman Turkish on f 115r, presumably from a dealer, as a price is quoted, to the effect that Ali himself ordered this copy to be made for the Sultan. This information, however, cannot be verified in any way. The manuscript is, however, likely of late 16th or early 17th century date. The text contains a single unvan.
