Scope and Content

This volume contains copies of correspondence between the Sublime Porte (the Ottoman Government) and the French Embassy and consulates, largely on matters concerning the Capitulations. A copy of the text of the Capitulations can be found on ff 37r-56v. The letters are signed by Baron de Châteauneuf (f 256r), the Baştercüman Broux, Damirat, De Clérambeau, Chevalier de Colles (?), and other Consuls at Saida and Tripoli, but occasionally no name is given at all. The French translation of a manifesto from the Sublime Porte to the Emperor of Austria can be found on ff 141r-153v. The dates of the letters range from 1174 AH (1760-61 CE) (f 215r) to 10 January 1773 (f 139v).
