Scope and Content

This volume contains an Ottoman Turkish translation of a Persian work on ethics known as the Tibr al-masbūk fī naṣā'iḥ al-mulūk (تبر المسبوك في نصايح الملوك) by al-Ghazzālī made by Mehmet Aşık Çelebi (died 979 AH/1571-72 CE). The translation was made for the Vezir Rüstem Paşa in the reign of Kanuni Süleyman. The first lines of the copy of this work described in Karatay (No. 1521) are identical with the opening of an Ottoman Turkish version by Abdullah Kudsi of a work with the same title written in Arabic by Ibn al-Muqaffa. At the end of the text is a short poem by the translator entitled Berayi mekr-i'l-nisa ve'l-fiten. The manuscript was copied in 1058 AH (1648-49 CE) by Mehmet İbn-i Mehmet.
