Scope and Content

This volume contains a fragment (Bablar VI-X) of an unidentified Ottoman Turkish translation of the Persian version of Kalīlah va Dimnah which was made by Naṣrallāh circa 1144 AH (1733-34 CE). This translation differs from Ethé 2089, since the chapter headings are not in Arabic, but in Persian, like the earliest Ottoman Turkish translation. The language of this copy is less archaic than the latter. There are lacunae after ff 1v, 24v, 25v, and 26r. The volume contains illustrations, somewhat defaced and then retouched, on ff 6v, 9v, 13r, and 19r. Each folio is ornamented with floral designs of high quality in gold, picked out with red and blue. The manuscript was likely copied in the late 16th or early 17th centuries CE.
