Scope and Content

This volume contains two texts :. ff 1r-76r : An unattributed and untitled work in Anatolian Turkish based on various sources expounding Islamic ethics and doctrine. The archaic nature of the language in which the text is composed leads one to believe that it might have been copied in the 15th century CE. From what remains of the table of contents, the work was divided into 59 abwab but at the end it is stated that the book was compiled in 60 abwab. The text is lacking at its beginning;. ff 76r - 113v : El-bab el-mesail eş-şeriye; an anonymous treatise on legal problems in the form of questions and answers. This text is imperfect at the end. The manuscript has been lettered Kutbu'l-Din on the spine, but there does not appear to be another Ottoman Turkish work recorded with a similar title. It is probably that the work represented here had become ascribed to the author of a work of a similar nature: the Mukaddime of Kutbuddin İzniki, and that the author's name had been given to this work in error. It is probable that this second text was copied in the 18th century.
