Text area for ff 3v-57v: 133 x 58 mm; text lines 130 x 55 mm. Pricking and Ruling: 15 lines. Red headings and overlinings. Text frames, in black and gold, ff 3v-57v only. Script: Good Ottoman nesta'lik. Binding: Deep red morocco covers with blind impressed medallion, flap.

Scope and Content

This volume contains the following two works:. (1) 3v-37v, Fatihü'l-ebyat - فاتح الابيات. This is İsmail Rusuhi Ankaravi's (died 1041 AH/1631 CE) commentary in Ottoman Turkish on the first eighteen beyitler of Mevlana Rumi's (died 672 AH/1273 CE) Mesnevi. (2) 38v-138r: [Risāla-i Sipahsālār] - [رسالهٔ سپهسالار]. A Persian hagiography of Rumi by his disciple Farīdūn ibn Aḥmad Sipahsālār. Other contents of this volume include miscellaneous verses etc. on 1v-2r and 141v-142r, a marginal note in Arabic about shawq (yearning) on 16v, and on 141r, a list of (a) branches of learning and (b) styles of calligraphy. There is also a description in Persian of Fatihü'l-ebyat on 2v.
