A firman issued to the Kadı of Istanbul for the protection of the Jewish community and the provision of rights for the celebration of their festivals and the exercise of their religion. The firman contains the tughra of Sultan Abdülmecit I. It makes specific mention of anti-Jewish events in Rhodes and Damascus, where Jews were attacked based on the Blood Libel. The Sultan states that all Ottoman subjects, whether Muslim, Christian or Jew, are equal in his sight. The firman is dated evail Ramazan 1256 AH (late October 1840 CE) and contains a notice of receipt in the top right-hand corner.
