Scope and Content

This volume contains a cülusname or letter from Sultan Süleyman II (reigned 1687-91 CE) to James II, 'King of England, Scotland and Ireland', dated Saturday, 2 Muharrem 1099 AH (Thursday, 8 November 1687 CE) announcing the Sultan's accession and promising that the Ottoman government would maintain friendly relations with England and abide by all treaties. The document bears the tuğra of Süleyman II in gold.
