Administrative / Biographical History

Cardiff Sympathetic Society was founded in 1794. The primary function of the organisation was the care of widows of members of the society. The usual meeting place of the members was the Angel Inn, Cardiff. The society was disbanded in 1851. A detailed history of the society is given in an article in the Glamorgan Record Office Annual Report of 1992.

Custodial History

The volume was purchased in a second hand bookshop in Cardiff in 1942 and taken to Chicago, USA as a present for a family friend. The recipient has been attempting to find a home for the volume since then and finally gave it to british relatives visiting her in May 2004. They, in turn, passed it onto another friend who sent it to the record office
