Scope and Content

Records of Moore & Robinson’s Nottinghamshire Banking Company relating to its establishment, operation and takeover by Capital & Counties Bank, including:

  • Establishment (1836-1866): deeds of settlement and certificate of incorporation;
  • Operation (1836-1901): main board and committees minute books; minutes of annual general meetings; documents relating to property;
  • Amalgamation (1901-1920): amalgamation agreements.

Administrative / Biographical History

The private bank of Moore, Maltby, Evans & Middlemore was established in Nottingham in 1802. In 1836 it converted to a joint-stock bank and was renamed Moore & Robinson's Nottinghamshire Banking Company. It took over the Wirksworth bank of Arkwright & Co. in 1875. When Capital & Counties Bank took over Moore & Robinson’s in 1901, it had just two branches.
