Administrative / Biographical History

Philip Box, a mercer and draper, formed this private bank in 1783, in Buckingham. In 1811 it became Bartlett & Nelson, following partnership changes, and Bartlett, Parrott & Co. in 1830. Branches were opened in Brackley (1841), Stony Stratford (1843) and Winslow (1844).

It was one of three private banks that joined together in 1853 to form Bucks & Oxon Union Bank.
