Scope and Content

Forty-nine letters from William Holman Hunt to his friend Edward Lear (1812-88), November 1852-November 1887. The majority were written while Hunt was in England, but two were sent from the Italy and the Middle East (1869 and 1870). There is a further letter to Lear, dated April 1857, from the painter Robert Braithwaite Martineau (1826-69), who brought Lear and Holman Hunt together.
