Comprising: Commissions of the Peace 1836 and 1878, which has a schedule of justices updated by fiat to 1973

Administrative / Biographical History

Following the Municipal Corporations Act, 1835, it was necessary to issue a commission of the peace to all boroughs which were to be granted powers independent of the county commission. By virtue of the Local Governmenr Act, 1972, section 217, and The Commissions of the Peace Order 1974 (Statutory Instrument 1974 No.72), the commission of the peace of the borough of Doncaster (with those for the boroughs of Barnsley and Rotherham) ceased to have effect from 1 Apr 1974 and was subsumed into the commission for the new Metropolitan County of South Yorkshire
