Records of Hull University Badminton Club and Kingston Ecclesiological Society

The records of the Kingston Ecclesiological Society include the constitution, minutes, and accounts 1967-71 as well as a small amount of miscellaneous correspondence, information about the Society's annual dinner and religious feasts and celebrations as well as a Guide to Hull churches published by the Society in 1969.

The Kingston Ecclesiological Society was set up with the object of '[promoting] by means of lectures, discussions, excursions and other means, interest in all branches of church architecture, history and liturgy, with particular reference to Hull and the surrounding district' [U DX79/2]. The Council of the Society consisted of 3 members of Hull University Senior Common Room, 3 members of the Students' Union and 3 others. The President was the Bishop of Hull. The collection includes the members subscriptions receipt book 1967-71 [U DX79/4]. The Society held an annual dinner for students, but in 1970 had only two student subscriptions and 'it was agreed...that the Society had ceased to be of appeal; it could neither continue as a student society, nor as a Senior Common Room society' as it also lost support from staff members [U DX79/2]. In 1971 its final £5 was given to Hull University's Catholic chaplaincy, where meetings had been held, and the society disbanded. Dr Chilton, one of its members, kept the records for ten years.
