Scope and Content

This collection contains material from the office of solicitor John Lloyd Griffith of Holyhead, Anglesey. It consists of legal documents produced from a variety of transactions including marriage settlements, property conveyance, wills and letters of administration. Clients were mainly families from the north Wales area. In particular, documents relating to the Williams family of Treban, Llanbeulan, Anglesey, feature prominently in the collection.

Administrative / Biographical History

John Lloyd Griffith (1839-1902) solicitor, of Holyhead, Anglesey was the son of clergyman, Rev. Henry Griffith, Anglican rector of Llandrygarn, Anglesey between 1829 and 1862. He was active in fundraising for the establishment of the University College of North Wales in the 1880's and was a member of the first council of the university. He married Elin Young Griffith, his cousin in 1876 and had one daughter, Sarah Winifred.

Material has been arranged according to subject and then chronologically and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .
