Scope and Content

This collection comprises the personal papers, including a memoir, correspondence, research notes, newspaper cuttings and photographs, compiled by Norman W. Andrews (1938-2000), relating to the history of his family, his service with the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, as well as his work and then retirement as the Managing Director of N. W. Andrews & Co Ltd, who owned the furniture branch of Andrews Store at 450-452 Becontree Avenue, Dagenham. Also with a printed copy of the articles of association of N. W. Andrews & Company Ltd, a short account, written by his mother, Hannah Mildred Andrews (23 April 1974) and a copy of the speech that she performed on the opening of the refurbished clothing and drapery shop at 445 Becontree Avenue, Dagenham (27 September 1958).

Administrative / Biographical History

Norman W. Andrews (fl. 1922-2000) was the son of William and Mildred Andrews, who owned Andrews Store, Dagenham. He served with the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. After the war he took over and expanded the furniture branch of his parents shop at 450-452 Beacontree Avenue, Dagenham, forming N. W. Andrews & Co Ltd in 1950. Meanwhile he was also involved in the Baptish Church, as well as the Dagenham Rotary Club. Norman W. Andrews retired in 1984.
