Scope and Content

Concerns enclosing a copy of his poems "Elegies" [see CS4/1839] due to be published shortly, the first of which had Lord John Cavendish's name attached to it previously but now "may be claimed by any young nobleman that pleases". Written from Aston. Signed: "W. Mason".

The explanatory note illuminates on the discovery of the manuscript in 1938 at Chatsworth when the lift shaft was being installed in the house.
