Scope and Content

Seven typed letters from Philip James, Director of Art, Arts Council, to Margaret Nash, and her replies. Includes two letters from E. Reynolds, Personal Assistant to Philip James on his behalf, and from Gabriel White, Assistant Art Director. The letters mainly concern the sale or bequest of Paul Nash works from Margaret's collection, but also mention Margaret's health and finances (TGA 7050.1838 and 1852), the tour of the Arts Council Exhibition 'Paul Nash's Camera' (TGA 7050.1838), the ultimate destination of Paul Nash's photographs (TGA 7050.1844-46), the sale of Ben Nicholson's 'White Relief' (TGA 7050.1852-56), and Philip James's new job at Waddesdon Manor (TGA 7050.1858). Together with two letters from Ellen Kemp, Exhibitions Oficer, Arts Council, to Margaret Nash and one reply from Margaret, regarding the loan of 'Eclipse of the Sunflower', 'Winter Sea', 'Saversnake', 'Opening', 'or 'Wood on the Downs', for an exhibition of '10 English Painters 1925-1955' in Scotland (TGA 7050.1849-51). Other paintings mentioned include 'Tree', 'Study for Battle of Germany', 'Vernal Equinox', 'Mineral Objects' and 'Northern Adventure' (TGA 7050.1837), 'Eclipse of the Sunflower' (TGA 7050.1836-37), 'Ballard Head, Swanage', 'Winter Sea' and 'Ballard Phantom' (TGA 7050.1845-47) and 'Vernal Equinox' lithograph (TGA 7050.1848).
