Scope and Content

Mathematical papers, including:

- tables of data gathered for Edmond Halley's survey of solar and lunar eclipses (in preparation for the 1715 solar eclipse), transcribed by Charles Morgan from figures 'communicated by' Clare fellow, Martin Folkes.

- Morgan's manuscript copies of texts by Isaac Newton and Isaac Barrow (some taken from manuscripts, some from published works).

- Notes and data in other hands, including Martin Folkes and Roger Cotes.

Administrative / Biographical History

(1678-1736). Matriculated at Clare, 1693, later a Fellow, 1700, then Master of the College from 1726 until his death, including a stint as Vice Chancellor of the University, 1732-33.

Acquisition Information

Acc 1988/17 - Transferred from Fellows' Library in 1988 by Roger Schofield (with Ferrar Story Books and other manuscripts).
