Will of John Anstey, London and Bath, Somerset

Last will and testament of John Anstey esq of Hertford St, Mayfair. He leaves everything to his brothers Revd Christopher Anstey of Norton, Durham, and Robert Anstey esq, of Bath, and to John Hodgson esq of Lincoln's Inn, as his trustees, also appointing them executors. They are to sell all his freehold and leasehold property. Once this has been done, his wife is to have #300 for her immediate needs, and his funeral expenses etc are to be met. The rest of the money so raised is to be invested in government stock from which there is to be paid to his wife an annual sum equivalent to the clear rent income from three houses in Bath (provided that she agrees to the sale of those properties). All other money so raised, and including the interest on #4,075 3s 6d invested under his marriage settlement, goes to his children, in equal portions. He names his wife and his brother Christopher as guardians of any under-age children. In a codicil, he appoints his wife and son Christopher (being now of age) as executors, replacing the above trio, and bequeaths various small, personal items to his wife and children, including books, paintings, a pianoforte, and a Haley chronometer. 5 pages, probate copy of will dated 6 Jan 1809, with single codicil dated 5 Dec 1816, certificate of probate with seal, duty stamps. Endorsed: 'Bank Regr / A I 20089 [unidentified initials]' and (in red): 'W H R ?P'.
