These include articles about Johnson's 1950 visit to Australia, the British Soviet Friendship Society and the public dispute with five canons of Canterbury Cathedral in 1940. Other sections include articles about Johnson's relationship with Archbishop Fisher and obituaries and news items from all over the world, following Johnson's death in 1966.

Administrative / Biographical History

Hewlett Johnson was a newsworthy figure in his capacity as Dean of Manchester and of Canterbury. During his visit to China in 1942, during the famines, Johnson sent regular reports back to the Times and the Manchester Guardian. Johnson's many tours and lectures resulted in significant press coverage, from the British press and those abroad.
