Scope and Content

Miscellaneous correspondence, largely addressed to J. T. Evans, including personal letters, letters of recommendation, and several concerning church plate, dated 1897-1904. Correspondents include, Wilfred Cripps, Cirencester (author of 'Old English Plate', a volume much used by Evans when compiling his own volumes on church plate.); A. W. Wade-Evans; Francis Were; T. W. Barker, Carmarthen; and C. F. Egerton-Allen. The documents, 1895-1901, include: (i) Licence to the curacy of St Andrew the Great, Cambridge, to J. T. Evans from the Bishop of Ely, dated 2 Nov. 1895; (ii) Declaration of assent (to the above benefice), 3 Nov. 1895; (iii) Certificate of subscription and order of services for the parish of Stow-on-the-Wold, 25 Feb. 1899, presented to J. T. Evans on his appointment as Rector there by the Bishop of Gloucester; and (iv) A copy of a grant of authority for J. T. Evans to perform marriages by license from Arthur Becher Ellicott, Chancellor of Gloucester, 30 Oct. 1901. The antiquarian material includes: (i) Several cuttings from The Pembroke County Guardian of the antiquaries' column 'Yn Amsang ein Tadau', containing articles by J. T. Evans, 10-17 Aug. 1901 and 30 Aug.-6 Sept. 1902; and (ii) A drawing (tracing?) on brown tracing paper of a new crosier for St Davids Cathedral. 86 Pp. Indexed.
