Scope and Content

Correspondence dated 1898-1909, addressed to J. T. Evans largely re his interests in church plate and other ecclesiastical antiquities, (mostly of Carmarthenshire). Correspondents include: T. W. Barker (Carmarthen), Helen Cripps (Countess Bismark), Cirencester, the Rev. Alfred E. Evans (Garthbrengy), Francis Green (St Davids), Sir John Rhys (Jesus College, Oxford), Sir John Williams (Aberystwyth), and H. B. Walters (British Museum). A number of the letters, of a personal nature, relate to J. T. Evans's predecessor at Stow-on-the-Wold, the Rev. Hippisley, who still wished to interfere with parish matters after retirement. Several other letters relate to J. T. Evans's desire to sell glebe lands at Stow. Printed articles include: (i) 'Celtic Churches and Ritual, a paper read before ... the Brecon Clerical Association at Llanfrynach, on 17 Sept. 1907, by the Rev. John Price MA, Rector of Llanfeugan'; (ii) Two articles ... 'reprinted from the Evesham Journal and Four Shires' Advertizer, 1 & 8 Jan. 1910 ... being a full, true and particular account of the extraordinary adventures of the heads of ... King Charles I, and ... of the Lord Protector, both before and after they had been severed from their trunks ...' Drawings include: (i) Plan of Wroxall Parish (Warwickshire) showing all the houses, dated 1898; (ii) Two drawings of chalices and a paten cover found in graves supposed to be those of two 13th cent. bishops of St Davids. 122 Pp.
