OVERTON ECCLESIASTICAL PARISH RECORDS

Records of Overton parish, 1602-1982, including registers, 1602-1982; service registers, 1879-1901; and overseer's records, 1818-1848.

The county of Flintshire falls within the Diocese of St Asaph and consists of over fifty ecclesiastical parishes, including Overton. The records of individual ecclesiastical parishes in Flintshire include registers of baptisms, marriages and burials, as well as records of the churchwardens and Parochial Church Councils, parish charities, schools, clubs and societies. Parish records were deposited at the Clwyd Record Office, following an agreement of 1976 between the Church in Wales and the Welsh County Councils. Overton was originally part of the parish of Bangor Monachorum. In 1867, Overton was constituted as a separate parish, and endowed with its own tithes, under the patronage of the Duke of Westminster. The new parish consisted of the townships of Knolton, Maesgwaelod, Maeslewis, Overton Foreign and Overton Villa.

Arranged in three groups: Group One, incumbent and overseer's records; and Groups Two and Three, incumbent records.
