Administrative / Biographical History

Gillian Rose (1947-1995) began her academic career at Oxford, reading Politics, Philosophy and Economics. She then held a Ford Foundation Scholarship at Columbia University, before returning to Oxford to undertake research for her D.Phil. Joining Sussex University in 1974, Rose became a Reader at the School of European Studies. In 1989, she moved to Warwick University, taking up a professorship in the Sociology department. Professor Rose's publications included 'Hegel Contra Sociology' (1981), 'The Broken Middle' (1992) and 'Judaism and Modernity' (1993).
