An album containing albumen prints of various sizes. The album shows views in Durban, Pietermaritzburg and a few from Mozambique. The majority of the images are briefly captioned; captions composed for untitled prints are enclosed in square brackets.

Physical Characteristics and/or Technical Requirements

The prints are in fair condition. Following flood damage in February 1980, the album now lacks its cover, and the pages have mostly come unstuck.

DateText: Most of the photographs were probably taken around the mid-1870s (see plate 3 and 11) but the album was probably assembled at a later date: plates 20 and 21 refer to the Zulu War of 1879 and plates 9 and 15 have an air of the 1880s rather than the 1870s..
