Administrative / Biographical History

Peter Williams is an educational planner, particularly interested in policy, planning, management and financing of African education systems and international (especially Commonwealth) educational co-operation and student mobility.

He was the Founding Secretary (now Hon President) of the Commonwealth Consortium for Education, is a long-time member of the Council for Education in the Commonwealth’s Executive (presently Secretary of CEC’s Support Group for the Commonwealth Scholarship Plan) and a founder member of UKFIET.

He has held the following posts-

Planning Adviser Kenya, Ghana Ministries of Education 1966-72

Lecturer/Professor of Education in Developing Countries, Institute of Education in London 1973-84

Director of Education, Commonwealth Secretariat, 1984-94.

In addition to undertaking many consultancies and serving on national education commissions in Botswana, Namibia, The Gambia and Zimbabwe.
