80 x 55 mm. A loose snapshot, by James Packman.
The print shows the modern grave of Hugh Clapperton (1788-1827) the West African explorer who died at Sokoto. Part of the accompanying letter from James Packman reads:
'It seems (but I have not verified this) that he died and was buried in a village nearby, but later, when a British settlement was made, his original grave was opened and he was re-interred in the European cemetry just outside the walls of Sokoto, with the commemoration shown'.
