Administrative / Biographical History

The Federation of Independent Trade Unions was formed in 1973 as the Federation of Registered Trade Unions, changing its name in May 1974. It aimed to represent the interests of members of trade unions which were not affiliated to the Trades Union Congress. The driving force behind its formation was the Union of Sales, Technical Representatives and Agents and its General Secretary, Jack Ogden.
