During the 1960s, Julia Trevelyan Oman worked as a set designer for the BBC on a range of productions including Music for a Summer's evening, various schools programmes and the series Famous Gossips, a set of monologues on the lives of famous people including Harriette Wilson and Augustus Hare. One of these programmes, on the life of John Aubrey developed into the one-man theatrical production Brief Lives, the set for which was designed by Julia Trevelyan Oman.
