Conservation

Correspondence, photographs and other papers relating to general conservation work, national and local conservation concerns and files on sites of potential conservation interest to the Trust. Records include general species notes, 1962-2000; habitat conservation, 1964-1982; entomology records, 1969-1995; botany records, 1969-2000; fungi records, Mammal records, 1970-1998; ornithology records, 1976-1996; reptiles and amphibians records, 1983-1996; forestry records, 1986-1994; biodiversity records, 1998; correspondence and papers relating to conservation work on Trust reserves, 1967-1991; correspondence and papers relating to potential new reserves, 1971-1997 and correspondence relating to each region of Yorkshire relating to specific conservation issues, 1978-1998.

These files were established by Trust Head Offices in York to organise and categorise correspondence on conservation topics. After 1973, the files were primarily maintained by Stephen Warburton, the Trust's Field, and later Conservation, Officer, and largely contain his correspondence with various local and national bodies, as well as his working notes.

Records are open to the public, subject to the overriding provisions of relevant legislation, including data protection laws. 24 hours' notice is required to access photographic material.

Deposited with the Borthwick Institute by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in 2014.

A reprographics service is available to researchers. Copying will not be undertaken if there is any risk of damage to the document. Copies are supplied in accordance with the Borthwick Institute for Archives' terms and conditions for the supply of copies, and under provisions of any relevant copyright legislation. Permission to reproduce images of documents in the custody of the Borthwick Institute must be sought.

The files were weeded for duplicates by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust staff prior to deposit. Material of insufficient archival value has been removed and returned to Wakefield.
