A manuscript history of photography, written in a neat hand and illustrated with pictures and reproductions from many sources, including some original photographs. The item is accompanied by a letter from Patricia Coward, Chief Indexer, British Film Institute, dated 23 November 1976 and addressed to Mr Ellis at Kodak, sending the material and informing him that it was 'part of the private collection of James Anderson, deceased, donated to the Institute some years ago.'. Among the original photographs accompanying this account are a salted paper print of Melrose Abbey by William Henry Fox Talbot, a small tintype of a lady, two photographs of the solar eclipse of 18 July 1860, cartes de visite of Queen Victoria and the royal family, three stereoscopic prints, two studies of street urchins by O. G. Reylander, seven woodburytypes of London street life by John Thomson, two topographical views of Innsbruck and Stuttgart, a carbon print portrait of Sir Edward Leighton by Downey.
