This small collection contains papers from the library of a Professor of French at the University of Hull, employed in the period 1932-1957. Note that the papers don't relate to the work of Professor MacInnes directly, and seem to be items he collected over a period of time. The collection contains the following: Letter from John W. Hales to an acquaintance named 'Seecombe', c.1866; partial letter from E. Stanley Jones, n.d.; file of papers re Building Committee of Hull Subscription Library, 1855-1856.

Administrative / Biographical History
Professor William Alexander MacInnes (MC, MA Glasgow), worked at the University of Hull between 1932 and 1957 where he was Professor of French. On retiring, he was made Professor Emeritus which post he held from 1958. He was born on 11 April 1892, to William and Jemima MacInnes, and was married in 1918 to Madeleine Elizabeth Bauer.
