Expedition to Kumasi

Duplicated copies of a complete set of military routine orders issued by Willcocks when commanding the Ashanti Field Force, 27 May 1900 - 1 January 1901.

Sir James Willcocks (1857-1926) was born at Baraut, India, on 1 April 1857. He was gazetted to the 100th Foot in the Punjab in 1878, and joined the new army transport department in India in 1884. From 1887 to 1889 he was adjutant of the 100th Foot. Willcocks commanded the Ashanti field force during the relief of Kumasi in July 1900, and was given command of the northern army in India in 1910. In 1914 he was sent to France in command of the India army corps. He resigned in 1915, and was subsequently Governor of Bermuda, 1917-1922. He died at Bharatpur on 18 December 1926.
