Administrative / Biographical History
Edmund Ashworth, was a land owner and business man, who lived on the Bryn y Menai estate in the parish of Llandegfan near Menai Bridge, Anglesey. His Estate amounted to the value of £126,279.19s.5p on his death, 6 March 1907. Properties on the Bryn y Menai Estate were, Gors, Borthwen Farm, Bryn y Menai, Glanffrwd, Garth View, Bryntirion, Bacha, Hen Dy and Tanyfford a small cottage near Garth Ferry. He owned property in Lancashire, Hampshire and Johnson Streets, Cheetham, Vernon Street, Ardwick, Albert Street, Bradford all in Manchester. Houses in Norway, Bramar, Maynard, Clive, Webb, Patterson and Pollock Streets in Liverpool and houses in Havelock Street Seacombe Cheshire.
Stocks and shares in many companies including Knutsford Water Company, Baku Russian Petroleum Ltd, the Salt Union, Caledonian Beaching, Midland Railway, Bengers Food Ltd. and Isle of Man Steam Packet Co. which he had banking facilities on the island with Dumbell Banking Ltd. He was a patron of Knutsford Grammar School and a supporter of Bangor Women's Hostel Company.
