Administrative / Biographical History

The British Whaling Exploration, 1892-1893 (Captains Fairweather, Robertson, Davidson and Davidson) sailed from Dundee in this pioneering whaling reconnaissance. The four ships Balaena, Active, Diana and Polar Star also carried scientific staff including Bruce serving on board Balaena. The voyage covered the Falkland Islands, the Joinville Island group and northern Trinity Peninsular.
