Scope and Content

This collection relates primarily to the birth control clinic, which was established in 1926 in Oxford by the Oxford Family Welfare Association. The clinic first opened in 17 Richmond Street and then moved to 4 King Street, Jericho in 1927. Another clinic opened in 1935 at the Radcliffe Infirmary when Oxford City Council opened a Birth Control Clinic for married women in medical need with Dr Mary Fisher in charge. In 1937 the Oxford Family Welfare Clinic became affiliated to the National Birth Control Association which later became the Family Planning Association. The clinic moved from King Street to the Radcliffe Infirmary in 1947 and changed it's name to the Oxford Family Planning Association in 1957.

The collection includes minutes, reports, correspondence, publications, photographs, newspaper cuttings and exhibition material.

The records were deposited as part of Acc 4124 in August 1996 and catalogued by Rosanna Ritchie in February 2024.
