Scope and Content

The two branches of the family were linked by the marriage of William Blackwell & Mary Ann Chillingworth at Oxford St.Giles' church in 1827. Mary (born in 1806) was the daughter of John and Mary and was baptised at the Oxford Independent Chapel in New Road in 1811. William and Mary's first two children, Benjamin Chillingworth and Mary Ann were christened at this chapel as well. The family were saddlers by trade and moved to London in the late nineteeth century.

The material in this collection was given to us in 1993 and 1994 (accessions 3715 & 3752) by a member of the family, David Chillingworth Blackwell. It includes the family bible, probate records, letters, registration papers, obituaries, and genealogical notes.

Catalogued by Mark Priddey, Nov.1994.
