Scope and Content

This collection contains material relating to 19th and 20th century pantomime and focuses on George M. Slater, an actor known for his portrayals of villains on stage, and H. Buckstone Clair. This collection includes play scripts, magazines, artworks, programmes and correspondence, as well as materials relating to the death of George M. Slater.

Administrative / Biographical History

Joy Attfield (nee Bright) was the granddaughter of Mr. H. Buckstone, who was related to J. B. Buckstone, an English actor, playwright, and comedian who worked in the 17th century. The collection from Mrs Attfield's family history focuses on various members of her family who had theatrical careers.
