Scope and Content

Cuttings from a wide range of British and American newspapers concerning the debate on slavery, including reports of George Thompson's tours and speeches (especially in America), protests against him and events in his honour; each volume also contains news, letters and editorials relevant to slavery, especially the activities of abolitionists, mobs, slaves and pro-slavery activists, and arguments for and against slavery; the arrangement is broadly chronological, rather than by places or themes referred to, or the source of the reports.

Newspaper cuttings, mostly with dates and the title of the publication; some handwritten notes and transcriptions by George Thompson.
