Administrative / Biographical History

The Boat and Yacht Builders' and Proprietors and Allied Trades Protection Association was established in 1913 to act as a trade association for the makers of small craft. Retitled the Boat, Yacht and Allied Trades Association in 1916, it was again renamed in 1918, as the Ship and Boat Builders' Association Ltd. The Ship and Boat Builders' Association was wound up in 1947 and the Ship and Boat Building Employers' National Federation (which began work on 1 January 1945) was reconstituted to cover the work of the Ship and Boat Builders Association and renamed the Ship and Boat Builders' National Federation. It became the British Marine Industries Federation in 1986. In 2008 it was renamed the British Marine Federation and finally, in 2015, it became British Marine.
