Scope and Content

This is an artificial collection made up of several deposits of parish records catalogued together in 1964. The records are largely overseers' of the poor account books as well as constables' and churchwardens' accounts, though there are also some estate records. Papers for Fridaythorpe (1811-1830) are about enclosure; papers for South Frodingham (1742-1811) include a few farming accounts of the Smales family with prescriptions for diseased animals; papers for Sproatley (1771-1824) include 'Anthony Chambers Book' 1781-1824 made up of farming and other accounts; papers for Welwick with Weeton and Plowland (1659-1745) include the 'Town's Book' 1659-1671 which incorporates servants' wages and farming accounts and papers for Withernsea (1703-1896) include some rentals for Rimswell, South Frodingham, Waxholme and Owthorne.
