Scope and Content

St. Barnabas lies in the west of Oxford, in the suburb of Jericho. It was built in 1869, largely through the generosity of the printer Thomas Combe, and created from the parish of St. Paul (which itself had been created from parts of the parishes of St. Thomas and St. Giles in 1837). In 1963, the parishes of St. Barnabas and St. Paul were united, but St. Paul was closed in 1969.

All the records of St. Barnabas were originally deposited with the Bodleian Library in 1972, except PAR197/1/R3/5, which was deposited directly with Oxfordshire Archives in 1984, and assigned the Accessions Number 2315. An Appendix gives a concordance to old and new reference numbers.

Recatalogued by Robin Darwall-Smith in April 1996.
