Scope and Content

The series consists of papers collected by Jean Wallace in her capacity as secretary of York 2000. They are a mixture of typical records (e.g. minutes, invoices), background materials (e.g. academic studies, government reports, pressure group literature), materials which relate directly to York 2000's interests and method of working (e.g. the relationship with consultants, the drafts of evidence and the publication York 2000 People in protest), including contacts with other traffic/transport pressure groups, and notes of conferences attended by, and talks given by, Jean Wallace.

Administrative / Biographical History

Jean Wallace was a member of a number of local and national groups interested in heritage and conservation including York Civic Trust, Priory Street Community council, York Archaeological Trust, Council for Voluntary Service and the York branch of the Council for the Preservation of Rural England. She was chairman of the York Group for the Promotion of Planning.

She became secretary of York 2000 on its formation and remained in that position until at least the early 1980s.
